Old or vintage photos often lose their colour if left in the sun. See the image above, the oval frame clearly shows where the sunlight has faded the image. For this project, that was a benefit for us, as we could see what the original colours should be.
This type of image retouching can be difficult, as it is often up to imagination to choose the correct colours, tones and saturation. Many older photos are printed onto slightly textured paper, so it is also important to match the texture with any new areas of colour.
We have also worked with black & white images, adding colour to the photograph, which is entirely a case of artistic license to imagine the colours. We usually take pointers from the customer to choose the correct colours.
